Planning Appeals System, The Scottish Government

The Directorate for Planning and Environmental Appeals (DPEA) plays an important role in the Planning Appeals system in Scotland. DPEA are responsible for the administration of over 20 different types of case work and deal with a wide range of appeals from decisions of planning or local authorities on matters such as listed buildings, consent to display advertisements and the storage of certain hazardous substances.

In March 2012, Cruise Technologies were commissioned to replace DPEA's outdated case handling system in its entirety. The new system includes a bespoke workflow engine, a task allocation feature, an embedded mail merge tool and full integration with other propriety planning  systems.

The new case management system will also be complimented with a new publicly accessible web portal. By using the portal, users can; easily locate cases using an extensive search mechanism, bookmark cases for ease of reference, subscribe to a personalised case alerting service and request to be kept informed electronically of case developments.
